SKOPJE, 27 November 2006 - A group of high-level Interior Ministry officials completed a five-day study tour to a Scottish Police College in the United Kingdom.

The trip was part of a training programme of the Ministry's Bureau for Public Security and supported by the OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje.

"This type of exchange has a successful track record. We are pleased to support the Ministry's efforts to train a new generation of police officers that will uphold democratic principles and observe European policing practices and international human rights standards," said Philip Tolson, the Head of the Mission's Police Development Unit.

Ljupco Todorovski, Director of the Bureau of Public Security, added: "The officers established good contacts with their UK counterparts, and studied different aspects of operational policing and training. We will now discuss ways of incorporating these practices into training courses for our police officers."
