OSCE Mission to Skopje

Established on 18 September 1992, the Mission to Skopje supports North Macedonia’s reform priorities and the continued implementation of the 2001 Ohrid Framework Agreement, fostering a just, equitable and cohesive democratic society grounded in inclusion, integrity, security and sustainable development.

About us

The Mission to Skopje is the OSCE's longest-serving field operation. It supports North Macedonia’s institutions in advancing reforms that strengthen the rule of law, democratic governance and social cohesion. It promotes constructive inter-ethnic relations in line with the 2001 Ohrid Framework Agreement. Through a comprehensive and cross-dimensional approach based on broad stakeholder engagement, the Mission contributes to legal reforms, strong independent institutions, builds capacities at local and central level in a range of mandated areas, such as fundamental rights and social cohesion, integrity, law enforcement, education, youth and gender.

OSCE Supports Advanced K9 Training to Combat Illegal Arms Trafficking

Fewer illegal guns mean more safety for people.Last week, special police forces from Southeast Europe and Ukraine completed the qualification course for police dog handlers, organized by the OSCE Mission together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.The course aimed to strengthen the detection of small arms, light weapons and ammunition under demanding conditions – high in the mountains and deep in the forest.Building on previous programs, the course focused on joint deployment, tactical co-ordination and compatibility between dog handlers and special units.

New protocol brings faster access to identity, rights, and services for all

North Macedonia is a global champion in ending statelessness. The country introduces measures to prevent future cases. The OSCE Mission to Skopje, jointly with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Health promoted a new Protocol on Procedures for Statelessness. The Protocol sets clear steps for institutions to work together to prevent new cases, because not having a legal identity means not being able to see a doctor, go to school, or access basic services.
