Established on 18 September 1992, the Mission to Skopje supports North Macedonia’s reform priorities and the continued implementation of the 2001 Ohrid Framework Agreement, fostering a just, equitable and cohesive democratic society grounded in inclusion, integrity, security and sustainable development.

The Mission's thematic and programmatic activities

The Mission to Skopje is the OSCE's longest-serving field operation. It supports North Macedonia’s institutions in advancing reforms that strengthen the rule of law, democratic governance and social cohesion. It promotes constructive inter-ethnic relations in line with the 2001 Ohrid Framework Agreement. Through a comprehensive and cross-dimensional approach based on broad stakeholder engagement, the Mission contributes to legal reforms, strong independent institutions, builds capacities at local and central level in a range of mandated areas, such as fundamental rights and social cohesion, integrity, law enforcement, education, youth and gender.

Building New Bridges: Pupils, Teachers, and CSOs Celebrate OSCE Project on Inclusion and Dialogue

More than 200 pupils, parents, teachers, and civil society partners gathered today at the Primary School “Zhivko Brajkovski” in Butel, Skopje, to celebrate of the OSCE Mission to Skopje’s Building New Bridges project.Launched in 2022, by the Mission, this initiative has been a catalyst for inclusion, dialogue, and trust among diverse communities across North Macedonia. Over the past two years, nearly 2,600 young people engaged in joint educational and artistic activities that strengthened social cohesion and created lasting connections and friendships across communities.

The OSCE Mission to Skopje marked International Youth Day by celebrating the power of youth civic engagement at the “Youth Civic Engagement Award” ceremony, held at Suli An in Skopje’s Old Bazaar.Organized by the Ministry of Social Policy, Demography and Youth and the National Youth Council of Macedonia, with the Mission’s support, the event honoured young individuals, informal groups, and youth organizations whose initiatives are transforming communities across North Macedonia.

OSCE Chairperson-in-Office’s Special Representative on Youth, Peace and Security concludes visit to North Macedonia and Montenegro

The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office’s Special Representative on Youth, Peace and Security, Santeri Leinonen, concluded a visit to North Macedonia on 10 and 11 June, and to Montenegro from 11 to 13 June. Throughout the visit, Leinonen met with government officials, civil society and youth representatives.
